Subject: Re: Carbuncle at Sellindge Convertor Station: Application 11/00667/AS
There doesn't feel to be a great deal of chance to stop this one happening, it's National infrastructure on the same site as all the existing buildings.
Aldington and Bonnington PCs have already commented 'supporting' the application. That reads a bit like wholehearted support and that is a little surprising.
The cladding proposed to the elevated building as shown on the drawings and described in the documents is Mill Finish Aluminium. What this means is RAW aluminium. Initially it will be shiny, then the surface will oxidize and end up as a sort of milky white grey colour. This is the cheapest of the cheap! According to the gods at KCC planning if you clad big buildings in sheeting coloured Heritage Green only then do they blend into the landscape. Quite a contrast to bright and shiny!
The building shape is crude and there appears to be little effort to mitigate it's impact on the local landscape. This is an area where more should be expected from these organisations, and from the planning authorities.
This is an application to Ashford Borough Council so that is where your comments should be directed. You can do it online from the planning application search pages if you want, or write to Carol Ridings at Ashford Borough Council and quote the planning reference 11/00667/AS.
Ashford have also consulted Shepway on this application because it is close to the district boundary. So you can write to Shepway Planning as well if you have any opinions on this and want them to know about it.....
