Dear Residents’ Association

I am very concerned with the proposed Planning Application (Reference - Y12/0293/SH) of 1 Swan Lane from 1 house to 5 houses, especially as this is at the corner of the busy A20 / Swan Lane junction.

As you will be aware, this is at the corner of the busy junction, between Swan Lane and the A20. The issues that particularly concern me are:

1)    Road Safety – The A20/Swan Lane junction is generally a busy junction, with all size of vehicle (lorries, buses, cars, motorbikes) entering Swan Lane (from both directions of the A20) and going onto the A20 from Swan Lane. There are often tailbacks and even the screech of brakes can be heard at this junction – an accident waiting to happen already and this would obviously increase that risk.

2)    Pedestrian Safety – Bearing in mind the above and especially with many school kids (running and on small bikes), grandchildren and the older person slowly walking past combined with the entrance being so very close (2 car lengths) to the A20 corner (i.e. cars coming round from the A20 would want to go straight into the entrance) – again a serious accident is waiting to happen

3)    Parking – Parking - allocated on site for 6 cars – i.e. 4 short of 2 per house. The application makes reference to utilising Downs Way for extra parking. How will parking be monitored so as not to cause problems for others in the area?

4)    Size of Conversion – With this being a significant proposed development, converting 1 house and ending up with 5 houses on the same land, at the centre of the Village will the character of the Village be maintained?

5)    School – I believe the School is over prescribed – where will school children go?

I look for your support.

Regards
A Local Resident
