STATEMENT FROM LAURA DAVISON.

Dear 8th June Voters,

Laura Davison, Labour Candidate in the forthcoming General Election has issued the following Statement:

Thank you for the opportunity to explain why this election is a choice and why you should vote Labour on Thursday June 8th.

A vote for Labour is a vote for our NHS. In our constituency we have a GP crisis; almost 5000 people in Folkestone are facing losing their doctor and this could increase to 30-40,000 as GPs retire. Waiting times are rising and one or two of Kent's hospitals could soon be shut. Labour will make sure the NHS is properly funded and you can see a GP when you need to.

A vote for Labour is a vote for education. In our constituency we have a schools crisis. Every school in Shepway is facing budget cuts; this means staff will lose their jobs and class sizes will go up. Labour will make sure our school budgets are protected and will invest in free school meals for our children and grandchildren.

A vote for Labour is a vote to solve the housing crisis. In our constituency, profit is being put before people with little or no community engagement or consultation. The Labour party opposes unsustainable development on green belt land. Instead I will work with local communities to build council and truly affordable homes on brown field sites and make sure that existing homes are fit for people to live in.

A vote for Labour is a vote for our pensioners. 85% of our pensioners will lose their winter fuel allowance if the Tories are re-elected. Many face losing the home they have worked hard to own in order to pay for Tory care costs. Labour will protect pension increases, free bus passes and winter fuel payments. We will create a National Care Service and work cross party to come up with an agreed solution to long term care.

Nationally this election is a choice between a Labour and a Conservative government. A vote for the Tories is a vote for fox hunting, falling living standards and cuts to our services. A vote for Labour is a vote for a positive, fully costed alternative which will give people security and opportunity.

Locally this election is a choice between a Labour and a Conservative MP. (See https://stopthetori.es/folkestone-and-hythe; Search Folkestone and Hythe in the constituency estimates at https://yougov.co.uk/uk-general-election-2017/ ) A vote for the Tories is a vote for local people to be ignored. A vote for me and for the Labour party is a vote for a committed and active MP with a large, active support team, who will listen to local people. Thank you and best wishes,

Laura
